The Temple Emanu-El Religious School is a warm and inviting place where children ages two through high school can come to learn what it means to be Jewish. Through studies of the Hebrew language, TiFilot (prayer), holiday celebrations, history, life cycle events, crafts and music your children will be involved in activities which lead them to discover the many facets of Judaism, while thriving in an atmosphere surrounded with other Jewish children. Through these interactions your child (ren) will become adults who identify with the Jewish community here and around the world.
Our program begins with our TAPT (Tots and Parents Together) program - children ages 2 and 3 and their parents meet approximately every Sunday from 9:00am – 10:30am for stories, crafts, music and fun holiday activities. TAPT is open to both members and non- members.
Pre-Kindergarten (age 4) through Grade 2 students) join us every Sunday from 9:00am-12:00pm to learn about holidays, Torah and Judaism with games, crafts, music and special activities.
- Gan Days, which meet a few times a year, for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students and their parents provide an opportunity to engage in hands-on activities centered on a theme from the Jewish year. During the first hours parents meet with our Family Educator to explore a relevant Jewish topic and the final hour is devoted to a parent and child activities.
- Home Start for grade 1 students and their parents, meet on selected Sundays from 11:10am-12:00pm. This provides an opportunity for you and your child to participate in hands-on activities that you can continue at home.
- I Can Learn Torah, a program designed for grade 2 students and their parents, meet on selected Sundays from 11:10am-12:00pm. During these sessions you and your child will be given materials which are uniquely designed to encourage parents to read and discuss Torah with your children and to help make these stories into adventures with which the children are involved in hearing, telling and understanding.
Grade 3 through 7 students meet on Sundays from 9:00am – 12:00pm and on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00-6:00pm. Here their journey begins into Jewish history, life cycle events, identification with Israel and other Jews, and the study of the Hebrew Language. Students learn to read and write Hebrew, recite prayers and blessings, participate in school wide Sunday morning services, and prepare for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
Our Monday night program for students grades 8 through 12 meet from 6:00-8:00pm. We begin with pizza or salad dinner with ice cream for dessert. Students have an opportunity to socialize with other Jewish students whose friendships have developed over the years at religious school or to make new Jewish friends. After dinner students in grade 8 get together to learn about comparative religions. Grade 9 students meet with the rabbi and cantor to study and prepare for Confirmation. Students in grades 10 through 12 meet to discuss relevant present day topics about Judaism, Israel and how Judaism enhances their lives.
