As another summer begins I have often wondered, as perhaps you have, what exactly happens at Temple Emanu-El during this period. Although there are no holidays listed on the calendar for July or August the Saturday Shabbat morning services and Shabbat Shiur continue. The Monday and Thursday morning minyan has been reinstated and begins at 7:30am.
In addition to these Services, on going upkeep also occurs:
• Sanctuary and foyer- each and every chair is shampooed, rugs are shampooed, all woodwork is cleaned, all light fixtures cleaned on the inside and out, replacing light bulbs as needed.
• Library, sisterhood and elevator area - washed from ceiling to floor, rugs shampooed, chairs that have material are also shampooed, all desks and furniture are cleaned.
• This year - the 3 offices that will be having windows replaced will need to be dismantled, cleaned thoroughly and put back together.
• All bathrooms are washed - ceilings, walls, stalls, toilets, sinks, floors, and fans
• All silver used for the High Holidays (in ark) is polished.
While the building may not be used on a daily basis for prayer and classes, the Temple staff continues their fantastic job of maintaining our house of worship.
