Rabbi’s Corner

Dear Chaverim,

This week’s Shavuon   may-19-shavuon  which will be distributed at services this Saturday morning.

26 folks just returned from New York City on our first ever adult trip to the Big Apple. Everyone had a terrific time visiting the Museum of Immigration at Ellis Island (we had perfect weather for the ferry ride!), the Tenement Museum on the Lower East Side, the Museum of Jewish Heritage (New York’s Holocaust Museum) and the Jewish Museum. In addition, we enjoyed a walking tour of Borough Park, home to thousands of Chasidic Jews, and a couple of plays on Broadway - Avenue Q and Mama Mia. While on the Lower East Side, we also stopped at the Pickle Guys and the New York Bialy bakery to help satisfy our taste buds and on the way home, we naturally stopped at Reins Deli in Vernon, Connecticut. What a whirlwind trip in just 3 days!

No Shabbat Shiur
There is no Torah Study Class this week. The next Shabbat Shiur will be on Saturday, June 2nd.

Israel Chavurah
Saturday, May 26th after the Shabbat morning service is our next Israel Chavurah. Join us for a spirited discussion on issues concerning Israel and the Middle East.

Annual Confirmation Service
Next Friday, May 25th at 7:00 pm is our annual Confirmation Service. High School Graduation will also take place that evening as will the announcing of the Religious School awards. In addition to the awards given to the students in the Religious School, the Jerome Rosengard Award will also be given out. The Rosengard Award is given to a person in recognition of that person’s commitment to Jewish education. A festive Oneg Shabbat honoring the Confirmation Class of 2012, the High School graduates and the award recipients will follow the service.

Todah Rabbah!
Many thanks to Fred Feldman who will be conducting the Shabbat morning service this week and to Vincent Van Der Linden who will be reading the Torah and Haftarah this week while I am with my family in Binghamton, New York where Raanan, our youngest son, will be graduating from Binghamton University.
