Growing up very active in the Conservative movement in Los Angeles, Mindy began serving as High Holy Day Shacharit cantor and b’nei mitzvah tutor at Adat Ari El in North Hollywood, California, in 1991. From those early years, Mindy continued her journey as a clergy/educator in a number of synagogue communities in California, Illinois, and Massachusetts, arriving at Temple Emanu-El in 2009, where she served as cantorial soloist for seven years alongside Rabbi Emeritus Ira Korinow.
As a young Jewish adult, Mindy had the opportunity to participate in the youth recording project Yad B’Yad with well-known Jewish musician/educator Craig Taubman. She attended Camp Ramah in California, was active in USY, and graduated Los Angeles Hebrew High School. She also serves currently as High Holy Day cantor at Congregation Beth Israel in Andover. She has been on the pulpit in a clergy or educational capacity for over thirty years, teaching children and adults in both Reform and Conservative congregations, including North Shore Congregation Israel in Glencoe, Illinois; Temple Beth Emet under the tutelage of Cantor Jeff Klepper in Skokie, Illinois; Temple Emanu-El in Haverhill; Temple Beth Elohim in Wellesley; and Temple Aliyah in California, where she served as ritual director. Mindy has worked on global Jewish renewal in Warsaw, Poland and, most recently, with the Jewish community of Uganda.
After leaving Temple Emanu-El, Mindy started her own boutique public relations and communications firm, which serves the international tourism industry. Mindy holds a bachelor’s degree in music from Northwestern University and a master’s in education with a concentration in administration and planning from Harvard University. In her spare time, you can often find her in a community garden plot growing vegetables or en route to a safari somewhere on the African continent. An avid sports fan, she is still bitter about the 2008 Celtics/Lakers NBA finals championship because her beloved Los Angeles team went home empty-handed. She lives in Waltham.
